Boat Share Familiarisation Training,boat share

Smart boat share - time for you and your family to enjoy a wonderful new lifestyle at a fraction of the cost of owning your own yacht.

We want you to enjoy your yacht syndicate safely and feel fully confident when you go sailing.

So we include a detailed and practical familiarisation session in the cost of your yacht share.

Most of the photos on this page are from the training session on board 'Migaloo' our Hanse 355

A member of the SmartBoating team - usually David Biddle - takes the session.

We keep the group size small so you can see, hear, ask questions and get a chance to take a good turn on the helm if you wish.

We start by going over every detail of your new yacht with you in the marina.

So for example down below we explain how to work the control panel and what all the switches do.

We explain how the bilge pumps and seacocks work.

We talk about conserving batteries and fresh water tanks.

We cover the safe use of LPG and the galley stove and barbeque.

And we talk through all the safety features of the yacht like the fire extinguishers lifejackets, flares and EPIRB.

You'll find our syndicate yachts are extensively equipped with everything you need on board. Just bring your clothes, food and wine... and you're all set to sail.

On this page about our Seawind share 'Stray Cat' you'll find details of the equipment David adds to your yacht.

Up on deck we explain things like

Boat Share Familiarisation Training,boat share
  • Ways to safely move around on deck
  • How to start and stop the engine and select gears
  • Using the GPS, wind and depth instruments
  • Navigation lights under power and sail and the anchor light
  • How to re-fill the water tanks if you are out for a few days

Then we talk through leaving the marina, berthing and tying up your yacht

Now the exciting part of your boat share - time to go for a sail.

As you head out of marina David points out the best route through the moored boats and then you're out on stunning Pittwater.

Now it's your turn to take the helm and grind a winch or two as we cover bringing the sails up and down and reefing.

We take time to show you the best way to anchor and pick up a mooring buoy.

And we give you tips to help you manoeuvre under power.

Then once your boat share is underway we still take care of you.

We'll be on the dock to help you come in and out of the Marina and we offer boat owners workshops to help you fill any gaps in your knowledge.

Happy Days!
